Anterior Segment of the Human Eye



A coronal section of the human eye at the equator reveals the anterior segment of the eye (the front as seen from the back).

CB is the ciliary body that is composed of the pars plicata with about 72 ciliary processes and the flat pars plana. The ora serrata is the junction of the retina and ciliary body where the section as been cut. The lens is positioned centrally and is suspended by the zonules whose fibers are so delicate they cannot be seen in this photograph.
